Messy, Messy

Look at this mom. She looks like she has it all together. She's even smiling!! As a wife, mother, sister, daughter, paralegal and Origami Owl designer I find it's hard to get everything done in a 24 hour period. Sleep is overrated right? I'm definitely not smiling in the morning when I'm rushing my 4 year old and 1 year old out the door. No matter what time we wake up it seems like we're always hurrying in the morning.

I find it's those small day to day tasks that get overlooked then become a huge pile of mess. Our mail pile is one of our problems. Most of it is junk so we just leave it on the side table. Then when it's piled so high it's falling over, it takes hours to sort through and see what we need, what can go and what can be shredded.

Here's a current picture of our entryway table. First I bought the organizer on the left and folders for each member of the family so we had someplace to keep papers. Well that didn't seem like it was enough. Then I bought the divider on the wall. That has space to sort the recyclable mail and mail to be shredded too. Then I felt like I needed the white board to keep important papers and be able to write notes. Notice there is still a pile of mail on the table, lol. This stuff only works when you use it. :-)

Consistency

The holidays are upon us and this is the busiest time of year for those in the sales industry. I need focus and use my time for business building activities. I'm starting to feel like I'm working a lot, but not seeing a lot of results.

I have a bunch of vendor events, but those aren't great for making money. They're more so about making contacts. I need to focus my efforts on booking in-home parties. Those will be the best way to earn money and hopefully earn a trip to Cancun!

I made a few calls yesterday and I have one party in the works. My plan is to call as many past customers as possible, starting with my past hosts.

My goal is to reach out to at least 5 people a day and see what happens.

I did book a fundraiser today so that was great. All of my commission will be going to the fundraiser,  but hopefully it will lead to potential parties or designers.

It's been a while

It's been a while since I posted. I had a 2 day event last weekend and something every night this week. I do try to squeeze in something business related everyday. I usually have Thursday to catch up, but my little one was sick and needed lots of Mommy snuggles.

I'm gearing up for my second event this month. I'm hoping to schedule a few parties from all these events. Wish me luck!

Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness

Everyone knows October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, but there is another great cause to be aware of this month, Pregnancy and Infant loss. October 15th is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day.

While breast cancer is a horrible disease, no one says, don't talk about it. However, that's exactly what people are saying when they tell pregnant woman to wait 3 months before telling anyone they are pregnant. I'll admit, it's hard telling people you are no longer pregnant, but isn't it better to have their support if something goes wrong?

This is going to be a hard month for me. I recently suffered my 3rd miscarriage. I've never really talked about the others much, but this one seems to have hit me a lot harder than the others and I think it's time we start talking about. Women don't know how common it is until it happens to them. Statistics say 1 in 4 pregnancies end in miscarriage. My doctor said that statistic might be closer to 1 in 3 now days with all the super early pregnancy tests available.

I wore my memorial locket right after my D&E, but I think it's time to break it out again. I'm going to use the locket from our October special to tell my story. I'll post a picture later after I get home and put it together.

I hope our journey doesn't end on this note, but for now I will enjoy the children I do have and I wait for the day we can give them another sibling.

Being a working mom stinks!

Well I had my annual review today. Actually this is my second one this year, because I was on maternity leave this time last year. Pretty much what I expected although it still got me upset. My attendance is an issue and I need to refocus on work.

They are FINALLY hiring another paralegal.  I've been asking for this for 3 years. It still upsets me though because i feel like it wasn't because I asked for it, but because I'm a crappy employee. If I would have gotten more help 2-3 years ago I wouldn't be in this situation. 

Being a working mom means you're never 100% and I feel like a crappy wife, mother and employee. I'm hoping this will help my situation and is not the beginning of the end.  Although, my husband keeps telling me to quit so who knows. 

Vacation

Well we've been on vacation for the past week and we are wrapping it up tomorrow.  I haven't taken a break from my direct sales business though. I've been trying to reach out to a few people everyday. Come Monday I am in full force for the holiday season. My goal is to book 4 jewelry bars ( our term for party) a month. Lots of people have expressed interest so I'm hoping I can get them to set a date.

Ideally I would like to add a few more team members too! We'll see how that goes.

Fundraising!

So how is a busy mom supposed to work a direct sales business in order to quit her full time job when that full time job takes up all the time she has to work her business??? It's a catch 22! It takes a lot of planning and some late nights, but my new focus is fundraising.

How can giving away your money help you with your business you might ask?? Well in the long run fundraising is a great way to expose people to #OrigamiOwl. Getting it all done

This will never happen, but I'm learning to live with it.

Monday was great and everything was clean before going to bed. However, I didn't get to bed until almost 11pm.

Tuesday I decided to let the dishes sit so I could work on my Origami Owl business. For those of you who know me, I'm working on this so I can be a SAHM one day. I was able to make a few calls and send a bunch of follow up emails.  You know what they say, "the fortune is in the follow up!"

Our morning routine is getting better, although I did forget lunch for me this morning.

Tonight I hope to do some quick cleaning and then spend some time with my hubby!

I'm off from my day job tomorrow so lots more Origami Owl work to be done!

Cancun
